Thursday 29 November, 1973

The quilts have been tied off!! After all these years of piecing, sewing together and worrying about - they are done. The pieces are woolen, taken from Claire's skirts etc and good woolen pants. I bought linings and piece goods to set them together with. It has been a project to help Claire with her bedding problems.

Bless Della Lee's dear heart. She has been to me, the sister I never had. She has helped me so much with these quilts. I didn't like to ask anyone to help me, for fear of imposing. She suggested several people, so we had a quilting day at my house. I prepared dinner and invited; Della, Afton Bulkley, Zelda Roberts, Ida Burrows, Florence Nix, and dear old Anna. Ida had to go to her ill daughter, and was unable to be with us. Florence was here most of the time. She came back after supper, because she knew I would struggle on & on - till it was a finished job. The others had different family duties, & had to leave early or come late. There were only three of the women, & Florence's little Julia here for dinner. I am now hemming the quilts, but I can do this without so much strain on my back. We did the quilts yesterday, Wed, 28.

Today was Norman's birthday. He has now left his thirties, for he was forty years old today. I pray he is happy, and well. We have not seen him for months. May he Lord bless him & guide his footsteps to a better life.
