Thursday July 4, 1974

Everyone is sleeping. Mike is out to spend a couple of nights with us. He & Les are going to pick peas in the morning, before Les takes the water. We had a cookout in Claire’s back yard to celebrate. Every thing was so tasty.

Marie is in Idaho with her parents again. I do not know when she will return? Norman has been having difficulty with a tenant. *I wonder if these same old worries and fears will ever resolve themselves? It’s midnight and I believe the poping of fireworks has finally stopped.

It has been a very busy week for us. Two weeks ago tomorrow night Ervin & Julia had a wedding anniversary dinner at the Red Flame in Bountiful, and all of the family on each side living here and around salt Lake attended. The dinners were about $10.00 each, & were very tasty. After spending the following week with Shirley. (their daughter) & John Pohlsanderup near Vernal, they returned to Salt Lake. They spent Saturday & Sunday night with us. They pushed their little tent camper under the car port & slept in it. We fixed a lovely dinner Saturday evening, and Orin & Odessa dropped in and had dinner with us. Jusy, Julia’s & Elvin’s daughter was with them, we all went down to Provo to visit Sarah and her family. Ray & Mary, Ted and his wife, and David and his wife were all there to see us. David is a very cute boy, as is his wife a cute woman. They were all so sweet to us. Sarah had a heart attack shortly after Les had his. She seems to be doing well.

We were back to see the doctor yesterday. After the contract at KCC is settled, the doctor (Reese) wants Les to go to the hospital for some tests. One of them is called a Cardiac Angiogram where dyes are sent through the veins to find out if they are filled with calcium & Cholesterol making him a good candidate for another heart attack. Elvin & Julia took us out to dinner on the way down to Provo. (Lesh?) , Clell & Anna dropped in today, They want us to go see the Ute Rangers if they are still showing tomorrow night.

About three weeks ago, Brad walked from his house to ours on a scout assignment. That evening we took him with us to the zoo. Les was pretty tired after that, and rested a lot the next day.

This past week Ariel has had to go to the doctor. He has had such pain, first in his stomach going up to his shoulders in the back, and then up the sides of his neck. The doctor said the tests they took didn’t find the exact trouble, but it was either ulcers - bilateral hernia, or gallstones, or heart. They have placed him on a strict ulcer diet, and he seems to feel better. We stopped at his house for a few minutes on our way home from the doctors. He was at work, but we did see Ilene & kids.
